Цель:

-       активизировать лексику по теме “Home / Living conditions”;

-       развивать навыки описания и сравнения условий жизни;

-       формировать умение аргументировать мнение и обсуждать реальную и необычную среду обитания человека;

-       познакомить с лексикой и фактами о жизни на Международной космической станции.

Оборудование:
проектор / интерактивная доска, карточки с фразами, карточки “Agree/Disagree”, таблицы для сравнений.

Тема: Home on Earth and in Space

Продолжительность: 70 минут

Тип урока: комбинированный (лексика + чтение + говорение + критическое мышление)

 1. Организационный момент (5 мин)

T: Good morning, everyone!

How are you today?

P: Fine, thanks. / I’m OK.

T: Great! Today we’re going to talk about homes — not only on Earth, but also in space!

T: Have you ever thought what it’s like to live on a space station?

P: Maybe strange… / It must be exciting!

Цель: установить контакт, мотивировать, создать интерес к теме.

2. Lead-in: Talking about homes (10 мин)

(На доске / экране — картинки: house, block of flats, cottage, caravan.)

T: Look at these pictures. What kind of home do you live in?

P1: I live in a block of flats.

P2: I live in a house.

T: Which one would you like to live in? Why?

P: I’d like to live in a cottage because it’s quiet.

T: Is your neighbourhood quiet or noisy?

P: It’s quiet and green.

Activity “Find someone who…”

Учитель даёт карточки:

Find someone who lives in a house / in the suburbs / on the 5th floor.

Ученики общаются:

P1: Do you live in the city centre?

P2: No, I live in the suburbs.

Цель: активизировать лексику по теме “types of homes”.

3. Vocabulary: Word Map “Home” (10 мин)

T: Let’s organise our vocabulary with a word map.

(Рисует на доске схему:)

HOME

Rooms (kitchen, bedroom, hall)

Furniture (sofa, bed, table)

Appliances (dishwasher, vacuum cleaner)

T: Work in groups. Add more words — one minute!

P1: Bathroom, garage, study.

P2: Lamp, fridge, microwave.

T: Great! Now use your map to describe your home.

P1: I have a small flat with a kitchen and a living room. There’s a big sofa and a TV.

P2: We have a garden and a garage.

Цель: повторить лексику, развить навык описания дома.

4. Pre-reading: Life in Space (5 мин)

(Показ изображения Международной космической станции.)

T: Look at the picture. What do you think life in space is like?

P1: It’s difficult to move.

P2: There’s no gravity.

P3: They sleep in special bags.

T: Yes, you’re right — let’s read and find out more!

Цель: активировать фоновые знания, ввести тему чтения.

5. Reading: “Life on the ISS” (15 мин)

(Учитель раздаёт текст или включает аудио.)

T: Read the text and match the headings (D, E, F) to the paragraphs. One heading is extra.

Ученики читают (индивидуально, затем проверяют в парах).

T: Paragraph 1 — what’s it about?

P: About washing and exercising — Keeping Clean and Healthy.

T: Excellent. Paragraph 2?

P: About sleeping — Time to Relax.

После проверки:

T: What surprised you most about life in space?

P: They use a vacuum to wash! / They sleep on the wall!

Цель: развить навыки чтения с пониманием и выделением главной идеи.

6. Vocabulary from the text (10 мин)

T: Let’s work with the new words. Match the words in bold with their meanings.

(touches – touches; huge – very big; shut out – block; inhabitants – people who live somewhere; etc.)

P1: “Huge” means very big.

P2: “Inhabitants” — people who live somewhere.

Затем — упражнение на вставку слов (sleeping, zero, vacuum, soft, etc.)

Т: “Living in ___ gravity means doing things differently.”

P: Zero gravity.

T: “Astronauts have to use a ___ hose to wash.”

P: Vacuum hose.

Цель: закрепить новую лексику в контексте.

7. Speaking: Comparing Life on Earth & in Space (10 мин)

Учитель рисует таблицу:

On Earth                     In Space

We sleep in beds        They sleep in sleeping bags on walls

We have a shower      They use a vacuum hose

We walk                    They float

T: Work in pairs. Complete the table and discuss which life you’d prefer.

P1: I prefer life on Earth because I can eat normal food.

P2: Space life is interesting, but it’s uncomfortable.

Цель: развитие навыков сравнения, говорения и аргументации.

8. Debate: “Would you like to live in space?” (7 мин)

T: Let’s have a short debate! Group A — FOR living in space, Group B — AGAINST.

You have 2 minutes to prepare your arguments.

(Ученики готовятся, затем выступают по очереди.)

FOR:

It’s exciting and interesting.

You can see the Earth from space.

AGAINST:

It’s dangerous and lonely.

No fresh air or nature.

T: Very good! Both sides gave great arguments.

Цель: развить критическое мышление, уверенность в говорении.

9. Writing & Reflection (5 мин)

T: Write 4–5 sentences about your home and life in space.

Ученики пишут, затем читают свои примеры.

Цель: закрепление лексики и структур.

10. Warm-up (3 мин)

T: What new words did you learn today?

P: Vacuum, zero gravity, inhabitants, soft muscles.

T: What surprised you most about astronauts’ life?

P: They use a vacuum to wash.

T: Great work today!  For homework — write a short essay “Would you like to live on the ISS? Why or why not?”
